Many times, while Luann and I were in the front yard or looking out the front windows, we would see a guy riding by on a blue Surly bicycle. Surly bikes caught my attention on my first bike tour. A number of experienced riders had Surly Long Haul Truckers - sturdy bikes built for touring. They were steel framed, heavy duty and had very durable components. Now, when we see the bicycle rider on his blue Surly bike go by, I say, "Hey, there goes Surly man!"
I thought about buying a Surly bike and talked to my local bike dealer about ordering a custom built Surly. Meanwhile, Surly man kept riding past the window and I thought I should stop him and ask how he liked his bike, how it was holding up etc.
The other day I was browsing Craig's list and a blue Surly was listed. I made arrangements to look at the bike yesterday and it was Surly Man! I looked the bike over, talked with Surly man and we swapped bike stories for a bit. Turns out the bike was a bit too short and his price was too high so I passed but it was nice to finally close the circle on Surly man.
